It's been a while since my last post! Sorry, I'm new at this.
Soo . . .Wow! My last post was a little intense. It was slightly frustrating down here for a bit. However, I feel like there's light at the end of the tunnel because it just so happens that I have snagged myself a job! Not just any job either. I'll be an Assistant Store Manager for Lumber Liquidators! Yep AND this position parallels what I did at Menards. So I can confidently say that (in the words of my dad) it is my vocation because it's one that I actually enjoy and have successfully beaten the odds. Who knew that a 27 year old female with a bachelor of arts degree in communications (and a minor in psych mind you) would be a lumber and flooring expert?!! Life is insane lol. I was just telling John last night that my experience at Menards was sure bittersweet because it is LITERALLY my stepping stone into the working world. If it wasn't for them, I might be selling insurance or something lol. EWW! How depressing. Oh dear, sorry if I've hurt anyones feelings. I just haven't met a lot of happy insurance agents. Go figure.
Anyways, I hope everyone had a good Valentines Day. Speaking of, xoxoxox! John and I didn't do a thing. Well, I suppose you could say that we reminisced about last year but that was the extent of it. Oooo but wait I forgot to tell you that we did make a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and stayed up late drinking appletini's. That was pretty fun. Nothin' too romantic though. No big deal. I think our big fancy night will be as soon as I get my first pay check where we can plan to go to Ruths Chris Steak House and use our 100.00 gift card from Christmas! That'll be fun! I'm sure we can get appletini's there too lol!
Well this was fun. I enjoyed writing this post more than the last. I suppose it's a reflection of the lighter mood that has graced our life recently.
I also try to incorporate some French with each post, but tonight I don't have the energy. In earlier posts you'll have read that I haven't practiced the language since high school which was 9 years ago! So as I roll my eyes and chuckle about that, I'm going to sign off and say goodnight!

Too cold for the bayou ya'll!
Ummmm . . . what do I say? It is absolutely freezing down here and I literally mean freezing. It is 37 degrees, windy and rainy and other places around here have freezing rain: yes, in Louisiana! Yeah, I know, I sound like a big wuss now. But I guess I kind of am, but when a person moves down to the south, the last thing they should expect is freezing rain and the possibility of snow! It's kind of funny lol. I remember thinking not too long ago that I miss the snow and the winters up north, but now that I've tasted it again, I'm not so sure lol Granted you could argue that it is a totally different type of winter because of the humidity but thats a whole 'nother bag of worms.
John and I were trying to grill chicken outside in the rain tonight too and having to stand outside, as close as we could get under the "shelter" of the overhang on the house with the roof dripping on us, was not very pleasant. But despite all that, dinner still turned out amazing and we're back inside all warm and dry again.
Speaking of John, he came home this morning from Pittsburgh. He's been spending time up there for work building a lock system of some sort on the river with the Army Corp of Engineers. Quite proud of him I have to say. He's very brave and I tell you what, there aren't a lot of people who could do what he does. It definitely takes a special man. He originally went to school to be a commercial diver with an emphasis in medicine, and to be able to be flexible the way he is in this industry that is extremely demanding and grueling, I think there are a lot of people in the world that can take a lesson from him! Even myself! John has the drive, the ambition and the wisdom of an experienced middle aged man it seems like, and seriously, I'm older than he is by a couple years and I can probably provide a list of the things I have learned from him! Why can't there be more great young men out there like him especially to replace some of those "f*#kups" in our society? The best part of it is is that John is only in his early 20's! I can't imagine what he'll be accomplishing when he DOES become a middle aged man!
I can't wait to start working because then I'll have the opportunity to climb the ropes again like he's doing and then give John a little bit of what we like to say is a "breather" cuz he works so damn much! Literally though, I think there was a week when he recorded 84 hours or something. Can't even imagine! I thought Menards was bad lol! I want to be able to help him financially because right now, John will get a paycheck in the mail and it is literally already spent before I even make the deposit. It's ridiculous. But my mom did tell me recently that that is not all that uncommon. Really?!! Can hardly believe it!
I'm kind of shaking my head as I write this cuz my instincts are fighting with my emotions if whether or not I should be exposing this publicly, but ya know, I could also sit here and make everything sound all peachy and covered in sugar, but that is NOT life. I said in my first post that I'm gonna try to keep it real, so there ya go. There's something about being real that I really gravitate to and maybe it's extremely naive and foolish, but I like to believe that there are enough fake people in the world and why not be human for once. We all KNOW that looks are deceiving and that includes the window into other peoples lives.
Well, to wrap up or in French they say "pour conclure" (literal translation means "to conclude"), I will say bonne nuit http://translate.google.com and hope ya'll enjoyed post #2 from the bayou (where it is very cold-brrrr. I really shouldn't be complaining lol. 37 is a whole hell-of-a lot better than 0 or below).
Au revoir for now!

Salut!!
"Bienvenue" to my very first post. Now, I've heard that my writing skills ain't bad! I'll let you be the judge. (Go to http://translate.google.com/translate for translations.)
I don't really know the rules or "blogging ettiquette" but I'll try my best to keep it real, interesting, a source of good insight and whatever I want to discuss, rant about, persuade, inform or perhaps demonstrate. (Yes, demonstrate: I believe there is a video application.) I don't really have a theme, but I am very opinionated (according to my former boss at Menards) and passionate, so I think this will be interesting. I can't promise every post will be as good as the last or the upcoming or that I'll publish something every day, but, of course, this will be fun either way. I encourage you to comment on anything I publish on here so maybe we can all learn something new. I have a feeling this will evolve and get better through the life of the blog. So just sit back, grab some, in the words of a cherished swedish grandmother, "cookas and coffae" and join me in this new adventure of mine.
Okay, so to clear something up that I know most of you have already butchered, a few times, is that "Salut" is not pronounced sa-lut or another word you thought originally (shame on ya'll)! It's pronounced like sa-loo and French for "hi". Living 30 minutes outside of the French Quarter in Nawlins (New Orleans) and having had 4 years of high school French, I figured "hey, I haven't used my French in 9 years, so why not put it to use now" lol. I laugh because I probably only remember 10% of what I was taught, including "salut". Thanks Mrs. Delaney! Anyways, I figure that most of you who will follow this blog are probably from "Minnesconsin", so this blog will learn ya little about the southern life in the bayou; hence, "Salut from the Bayou".
Stayed tuned for more bayou blogging coming to your computer from LaPlace Louisiana. I'm really excited about this people!
